Families brace themselves for the first laughter, love and chaos-filled weeks of parenthood. First-timers Syler and Mo, family of six the Pierces, overdue mum Hermisha and same-sex couple Paul and Craig prepare for the arrival of their new babies.
Now the babies have arrived, the parenting really starts. New parents Mo and Syler get to grips with round-the-clock feeding and sleep deprivation. Paul and Craig hold a baby shower before their surrogate Mel gives birth to their twins. Helen and Nigel hardly seem to notice any difference as they settle baby Abigail into their family of seven. And five-year-old Ezrah and seven-year-old Elijah come to terms with some new rules after the birth of their baby sister.
The families find new ways to cope as the dads go back to work. New dad Mo feels pressure to earn more cash. Nigel is a little too glad of the break from his family of seven. Hermisha doesn’t want Shabazz’s paternity leave to end. And Paul and Craig say an emotional goodbye to Mel as they leave the hospital to begin their new family with the twins.
As the families emerge from the hectic first weeks with their new babies, they re-evaluate their priorities. Mo must choose between a money-spinning job and time with his son. Hermisha longs to reconnect with herself and her family. Paul and Craig strive to be truly equal parents. Mel returns to see the twins. Eilidh and Richard wonder whether they will ever get their baby home. And the Pierces must decide if their family is big enough, or if they need just one more.
