Die vier mutierten Schildkröten Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael und Michelangelo leben mit einer ebenfalls mutierten Ratte namens Splinter ihr Leben in der Kanalisation von New York und üben sich in der Kunst der Ninja. Eines Tages wird ihr Heim zerstört und auf der Suche nach einem neuen Platz zum Leben, kommen sie der Organisation des mysteriösen Oroko Saki (des Shredders) in die Quere. Zudem begegnen sie der Laborassistentin April O’Neill, dem Strassenkämpfer Casey Jones und einer noch unbekannten Vereinigung, dessen Schicksalle alle mit den Machenschaften des Shredders verbunden sind. This version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles draws more references and plotlines from the original comics than the original television series did. Four turtles are contaminated with "ooze", a radioactive substance that causes four turtles to change into humanoids. Their Master Splinter, a rat whom also came in contact with the ooze, teaches them the art of ninjitusu. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo are Splinter's disciples who are now ready to take on forces that oppose them, including the Shredder. The Shredder is the Turtles' nemesis, as he killed Splinter's Master Yoshi. The Turtles become envolved in a complex trail of events to uncover just who or what the Shredder really is.

Un jour cependant, la destruction de leur refuge par des robots dératiseurs les force à remonter brièvement à la surface, où ils se heurtent au Clan des Foot, une organisation de ninja dirigée par l'inquiétant Oroku Saki. Une partie douloureuse du passé de Splinter est sur le point de ressurgir...

Četiri male kornjače napuštene u kanalizaciji New York-a bivaju izložene misterioznoj tekućini zvanoj mutagen. Mutagen ih pretvori u bića slična ljudima. Tako počinje priča o Leonardu, Donatellu, Raphaelu i Michelangelu. Njihova je misija zaštiti New York od ološa koji ga želi uništiti i pokoriti. 'Las Tortugas Ninja' gira en torno a las cuatro tortugas Leonardo, Rafael, Miguel Ángel y Donatello que deben de salvar la ciudad de Nueva York de las manos del malvado Shredder y su asistente, Baxter Stockman. Además deberán de luchar también contra los soldados del Pie, Mousers con la ayuda de su maestro Splinter y su amiga April O'Neil y su compañero Casey Jones. Leonardo es el líder más maduro del grupo y sus armas son dos katanas. Rafael es el más rudo, violento y sarcástico de sus hermanos y tiene como armas unas cuchillas Sai. Donatello es el más inteligente, calculador y reflexivo del grupo y su arma es un bastón Bo. Y por último, Michelangelo es el gracioso e inmaduro del grupo y sus armas son unas nunchakus.
