Dana, JT a Karen chtějí vlastní auto, zatímco rodiče jsou proti. Tudíž se rozhodnou pořídit si vůz za své. JT ovšem koupí starého brouka, zralého leda na odpis. Nakonec auto rozprodají na díly a ještě něco vydělají. Carol si pořídila novou knížku “Deset minut pro lepší manželství“ o zdokonalování soužití páru. Nakonec se s Frankem pohádají kvůli věcem, které si dříve neřekli (tajné konto Carol a Frankův notýsek s čísly bývalých přítelkyň), to proto, že před svatbou nevěděli, zda manželství vyjde.
Karen, Dana und J.T. wollen sich gemeinsam einen Wagen kaufen. Doch das Geld reicht nur für eine Schrottkarre und so muss der gutmütige Cody wieder mal als Mechaniker herhalten. Nachdem Karen nun auch ihren Führerschein bestanden hat, streiten sich mit Dana und J.T. J.T.t schon drei Kinder um das elterliche Auto. Frank fürchtet um sein kostbares Stück, nachdem J.T. bereits für die eine oder andere Beule gesorgt hat. Als er erfährt, dass die drei zusammenlegen wollen, um sich einen eigenen Wagen zuzulegen, fällt ihm ein Stein vom Herzen. Die 400 Dollar der Kids reichen jedoch nur für eine alte Schrottlaube. Nachdem Cody für die nötigen Reparaturen gesorgt hat, müssen sie feststellen, dass sie sich die Versicherung nicht leisten können. Sie wollen den Wagen wieder verscherbeln, aber möglichst ohne Geld zu verlieren. Währenddessen arbeiten Carol und Frank mit Hilfe eines Leitfadens an ihrer Ehe und schaffen sich so Probleme, die sie sonst nicht gehabt hätten.
Carol has just bought a book named ""Ten Minutes Per Day to a Better Marriage."" The book advised to tell each other a big secret. Carol tells him about a secret bank account with a lot of money in it. Frank feels betrayed and goes to his office to spend the night. Upon seeking support from Cody, Frank discovers that he was unsure in other areas (he had not thrown away his little black book). They realize that in the end they are better off for having told each other.
Karen just passed her drivers license exam, creating three drivers (Dana, JT, and Karen) and no car. They decide it is time to buy their own car, but they can only come up with $400. JT manages to find an old Volkswagen Bug for $400. The car is a disaster and although Cody works on it, it is barely driveable. Cody and JT sell it for parts and get $425, and they keep the 8 track player with a Sonny and Cher 8 track.
