Unknown aliens in their powerful ships have returned to the area near Starbase 211, engaging Federation starships in unprovoked combat (while issuing distress signals). The Starship Deimos is among several dispatched to locate the aliens to ascertain the reason for these unwarranted attacks. On board, First Contact Specialist T'Sov is appointed the task of making contact with these aliens. It is an assignment she soon finds herself far more challenging than she expects.
