京都のお盆祭りの翌日、男性が刺殺体で発見される。遺体は西鴨の神社で見つかった。警察は、男性が高級ファッション会社の社長であることを突き止める。現場には、女性のものと思われる靴跡が残されていた。その足跡からは、ホテルのロビーなどでよく使われる繊維片が発見される。さらに、神社の周辺地域には自生していないツバキ科の植物の花びらも見つかる。橘たまこ（真矢未希）は、これらのわずかな手がかりを頼りに捜査を進める。
