Frank is newly married and is living with his mother-in-law who is frustrated by him constantly breaking things. His latest attempt to ""help"" involves losing the door to the coal shed. Betty buys him a new briefcase and Frank attends an interview for a sales rep of a wholesale ironmongers. Before he even enters the building he causes chaos by giving a frightening bug-eyed grin to an assistant setting up a window display, causing the assistant to fall over and destroy the display. Frank then gets stuck in the lift for several hours. Once released, the interview with the manager of the company proceeds with Spencer breaking an expensive bathroom thermometer by demonstrating his door-knocking technique and causing a heavy metal cupboard to collapse with him under it. His patience worn thin, the manager gets short-tempered and shouts at his staff and they resign in protest. Frank leaves, confident of the outcome of the interview, only to get stuck in the lift for a second time!
Frank està recentment casat i viu amb la seva sogra, frustrada per ell, constantment trencant les coses. El seu últim intent "d'ajudar" implica perdre la porta al cobert de carbó. Betty li compra un nou maletí i Frank assisteix a una entrevista per a un representant comercial d'un fabricant majorista de ferreteria. Abans d'entrar a l'edifici, provoca el caos donant una sonrisa d'ulls asustadors a un assistent que configura una pantalla de la finestra, fent que l'ajudant caigui i destrueixi la pantalla. Frank es queda atrapat a l'ascensor durant diverses hores. Un cop alliberat, l'entrevista amb el gerent de la companyia procedeix amb Spencer trencant un costós termòmetre de bany demostrant la seva tècnica de cops de la porta i fent que un armari de metalls pesats s'enfonsés amb ell sota d'ell. La seva paciència es va desgastar, el gerent es va quedar curta i va cridar al seu personal i es van retirar en protesta. Frank surt, confiat del resultat de l'entrevista, només per quedar-se atrapat a l'ascensor per segona vegada!
Frank is pas getrouwd en woont bij zijn schoonmoeder, die gefrustreerd raakt door zijn voortdurende ongelukjes. Zijn laatste poging om te “helpen” leidt tot het kwijtraken van de deur van de kolenberging. Tijdens een sollicitatie voor een baan als vertegenwoordiger veroorzaakt Frank chaos, breekt een dure thermometer en eindigt zelfs twee keer vast in de lift!
