Season 1

  • S01E01 TY DOLLA $IGN

For our debut episode, rapper Ty Dolla $ign joined me on set to promote his 2015 album Free TC. What he didn’t know is that he would be forced to take up a massive mallet and obliterate glass candy bowls filled to the brim with Skittles. What I didn’t know is that Ty would be blazed out of his mind and constantly taking breaks to eat the Skittles. At one point, during a break in filming, he turned to me and said, “Man this is a waste of Skittles.” He’s not wrong, but that’s not my judgment to make. I exist to enact the will of Slow-mo Destructo and its will is that it’s freakin’ hammer time, baby!

  • S01E02 NICO & VINZ!

For today’s episode, Dan is joined by Nico (also known as Kahouly Nicolay Sereba) and Vinz (who also goes by Vincent Dery), the two halves of a hip hop/R&B duo hailing all the way from Oslo, the capital of Norway! Nico and Vinz may not have known quite what to expect from this show, but they did dress for the occasion.

  • S01E03 Zach Rogue

    • September 19, 2016
    • YouTube

This time the host, our own senior editor Dan Casey and his continuing wardrobe of absurd suits and glasses, was joined by Zach Rogue of the band Rogue Wave to…answer questions? Spin a wheel? I still have no idea what is going on with this show seeing as how, like all of the guests that appear on Slow-Mo Destructo, I don’t speak a word of Japanese myself. But no matter, because the important thing is that whatever took place led to Zach Rogue swinging that oversized hammer into a big heap of eggs as someone dressed like a cow shot milk at him with a water gun. If I had a nickel…

  • S01E04 MARGARET CHO

hat’s right! It’s Monday, which means it’s time for the latest episode of our Japanese game show, hosted by our very own Dan Casey. On the show, celebrities needlessly destroy things with a giant hammer and we watch it in slow motion. This time around, Dan is joined by the very funny, very awesome Margaret Cho, the latest in a perfect streak of Slow-Mo Destruco contestants who do not speak Japanese… which is kind of relevant, since the entire thing is in Japanese. As always, that didn’t stop everyone from having a good (though very confused) time. What happened here? Who knows! Did Cho win or lose? I don’t know, and neither does she. What she did do, though, is open up a whole new realm of possibilities for all game shows that prominently feature giant spinning wheels as part of the proceedings. Are you allowed to just keep spinning the wheel? Isn’t there supposed to be a limit to how many times you can keep it going? What would happen if a contestant did this on Wheel of Fortune, or the Price is Right? Would society collapse?

  • S01E05 TOBY MORSE

This time host and silly suit connoisseur, Nerdist’s very own Dan Casey, was joined by Toby Morse from the hardcore punk band H2O. As always, the fact that the entire show is performed in Japanese posed somewhat of a problem for the guest, as Morse had no idea what Dan was saying. Or what was happening. And especially why any of it was happening.

  • S01E06 ZOE REIGN

Sometime life gives you lemons, and so you are expected to make lemonade. So it goes that when life gives you a gigantic hammer and the (mis)fortune to be invited on to a Japanese-language game show, you take that hammer and make a watermelon a sticky-sweet mess of fruity shrapnel. And that, dear reader, is exactly what Zoe Reign did on the season finale of Slow-Mo Destructo. You read that right, this is the season finale of our delightfully bonkers descent into slow motion madness and blunt-force insanity. To make sure we honored Gallagher’s legacy, we invited Zoe Reign, the take-no-prisoners vocalist of LA-based punk outfit No Parents. (It also guest stars my favorite suit of the season—take note, fashionistas, because koi print is definitely on trend this fall.)
