獅子の時代

明治維新前年のパリ万博、幕府随行員として赴いた会津藩の下級武士・平沼銑次。幕府に対抗して独自に参加した薩摩藩の苅谷嘉顕。万博で出会った架空の２人が近代国家樹立という志を掲げて生きるさまを追い、幕末から明治にかけての激動の時代を描く。「大河ドラマ」初の明治もの。会津訛り（なまり）でしゃべる菅原文太の迫力ある演技が話題になった。
