Detective-Sergeants Ken Draffin (Dennis Miller) and Mick Miles (Tim Robertson) are from the same mould. Both are first-class officers with impressive records of arrests and contacts with the underworld. Both are also used to being top dog in their departments, so when Draffin is transferred from the plainclothes division to the drug squad, which is Miles' home territory, the scene is set for a major confrontation. Miles, in establishing his position and satisfying his ambition for power, has also had to abuse it. His road to the top has been paved with scurrilous deals. He has allowed himself to be compromised to protect known criminals and has then ruthlessly manipulated the system to protect himself. Draffin's ambition matches that of Miles, but he lacks his cunning. He is more devious and this alienates him from the rest of the squad.
