IV. Meanwhile, the succession conflicts in Edirne also intensify, and Murad, who is planning to withdraw, forces Mehmed to act. The second-born son decides to commit a terrible act in order to survive. Władysław almost makes peace with the sultan, but an unexpected tragedy finally triggers the crusade towards Adrianople. Hunyadi again encounters conflict on the political scene when he is confronted with Cesarini's influence over the young king's will.
