Auf Eden ahnen der Diener und die Haushälterin, wer Tara ist. Bei einem Ausritt erfährt Stephanie die grausame Wahrheit: Greg hat sie nie geliebt. das sagt er ihr ins Gesicht. Denn nach wie vor erkennt er Stepahnie nicht.

Dan Marshall tracks down Stephanie, first by visiting Joanna Randell unannounced, then by visiting the Sydney house where he meets the two children, Sarah and Dennis. Stephanie, meanwhile, carefully drives Greg and Jilly to distraction until at last Greg tries to kill Jilly. Stephanie then reveals herself to them both. Greg tries at once to kill Stephanie, first by setting fire to a room in the main house at Eden, then in a swimming pool. But Jilly shoots him in the arm, making him bleed profusely. He then attempts to flee in an aeroplane. It crashes and he is killed. The next day the police arrive and arrest Jilly. The day following, another aeroplane lands--carrying Sarah, Dennis, and Dan.
Malgré les précautions de Stephanie, le docteur Marshall a découvert qui se cachait derrière les sourires aguicheurs de Tara. A Sydney, il se précipite chez Joanna Randall, la patronne de l'agence de mannequins qui emploie la jeune femme. Trop tard : celle-ci est partie quelques jours en compagnie de son nouveau prétendant, un certain Greg Marsden. Stephanie a du mal à supporter le retour à Eden : tout lui rappelle en effet une autre vie, plus heureuse et plus libre. Les retrouvailles avec Kathy, la gouvernante du domaine, se révèlent particulièrement douloureuses...
