    Like an oasis in the middle of the Pacific during WWII, Truck Lagoon was a strategic out-post used by the Japanese war machine as a supply port that added in their domination of the Pacific. The American forces were struggling to regain a foot hold and Truck Lagoon soon became the target where the US Navy would exact their revenge for the attack on Pearl Harbor.     As WWII came to a close, the USS Oriskany, one the most advanced air craft carriers, was still under construction. Before it could be completed a new age of jet engines rendered her obsolete. After being redesigned, the Mighty “O” finally served during several decades of armed conflict and wars. Though it became an icon of American war power, the USS Oriskany was sunk at the hands of those who served on her. She is now resting on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico as the largest artificial reef ever made.
