Dr. Astin und Quincy wollen für ein paar Tage ihre Jobs tauschen, weil jeder vom anderen glaubt, daß er weniger arbeitet. Schon sein erster Einsatz als Pathologe bringt Astin ins Schwitzen. Die 17jährige Melody Stedman und ihr Freund Lennie Miller haben betrunken einen Autounfall gebaut. Lennie ist tot. Das Mädchen ist Astins Nichte, deswegen geht der Fall zurück zu Quincy. Die entscheidende Frage ist, wer am Steuer des Unfallwagens saß. Dr. Silva, die Lehrerin der beiden, klärt Quincy darüber auf, daß Melody Alkoholikerin ist. Alle Indizien deuten darauf hin, daß sie das Auto gesteuert hat. Aber Quincy und Astin geben sich nicht mit Indizien zufrieden.
