Zu Beginn der Ermittlungen ahnen die Kommissare in Magdeburg und Rostock nicht, dass es zwischen beiden Taten einen Zusammenhang gibt und dass vor ihnen die Aufklärung eines komplizierten Falls liegt, dessen Anfänge bis in die Zeit der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Umbrüche Anfang der 90er Jahre in Ostdeutschland zurückreichen.
An arson attack on a company in Magdeburg kills the wife of the junior manager. Only a few hours later, the body of an accountant is discovered in a hotel in Rostock. At the beginning of the investigation, the detectives in Magdeburg and Rostock have no idea that there is a connection between the two crimes and that they are about to solve a complicated case whose origins go back to the time of the political and economic upheavals in East Germany in the early 1990s. In their investigations, the commissioners from Magdeburg and Rostock are confronted with unscrupulous perpetrators who do everything to ensure that their criminal machinations from the past remain just as hidden as their dubious and lucrative business dealings in the present.
