Soon after he obtained a driver’s license, Gernot Aschoff found himself elbow deep in British sports cars. His first was an MGA plucked from the classifieds of a classic sports car magazine. It was in terrible shape, but Gernot was hardly dissuaded from going deeper into the rabbit hole. In today’s film, we join him for a drive in his meticulously restored Austin-Healey BT7 3000. A quintessential piece of the British roadster canon, Gernot’s example sat in a shed for 40 years before he embarked on his two-decade and counting custodianship. He was careful to make sure that the result of the restoration was factory-perfect, but don’t let the time capsule appearance bely Gernot’s habits. Fond of long distance drives with the removable hardtop fitted above the blue sculpture of bodywork, he makes sure the odometer spins.
