Penn, an 8-part mini-series written and directed by Suhasini Maniratnam, was produced by her father, Charuhasan. Each of the stand-alone episode delved into the lives of South Indian women played by top Tamil film industry actresses, their aspirations and emotions. The series was broadcasted by Doordarshan, the national broadcasting organization, in the early 1990s.
