Origins of the Mafia

Im Jahr 1556 bringt ein Boot den Gesandten des spanischen Königs (Joseph Cotten) und dessen jungen Assistenten (Edward Albert) zu einer eigenartigen Untersuchung nach Mazara del Vallo auf Sizilien. Er wird an Land vom Hauptmann der spanischen Besatzungstruppe der Insel und ihren Bewohnern erwartet.. Die Mitglieder der Familie Gramignano fehlen. Aber gerade sie will der Gesandte im Auftrage des Königs verhören. Ein Dokument aus dem geheimen Staatsarchiv von Palermo gibt Auskunft von dieser Familie.
