The documentary returns from a new location, capturing daily life in Liverpool Women's Hospital, home to the largest maternity unit in Europe. Gary, 48, tries to keep his 41-year-old partner Yvonne smiling through her contractions, while 25-year-old Jennifer and 26-year-old Darran support each other through a difficult labour. The couple were told at their 20-week scan that their baby daughter had a heart defect, but it will not be until the birth that they know how badly it might affect her.
