Why Movies Don’t Feel Real Anymore

From early Disney innovations and theme park attractions, to iconic creatures like E.T., Jabba the Hutt, and the dinosaurs that changed cinema forever, animatronics helped create some of the most enduring images at a time when movie magic felt real. But as budgets ballooned and studios chased efficiency, these mechanical marvels were slowly replaced by pixels, and the slow death of animatronics began. Today, there's still hope for the artistry of animatronics. Characters like Grogu prove that audiences resonate best when they can tell an object or character is real. But at the end of the day, for most studios, pixels will always be the cheaper option.
