Krkonošský národní park byl vyhlášen v roce 1963. Na výměře bezmála 550 km2 zahrnuje nejvyšší pohoří České republiky s dominantou Sněžky (1602 m n. m.). Předmětem ochrany jsou horské lesy, květnaté louky, lidová architektura a krkonošská tundra. O Krkonoších hovoříme jako o ostrovu Arktidy uprostřed Evropy. Severská příroda se tu setkává s přírodou alpskou, a tak se v tomto nejstarším českém národním parku můžeme setkat s arktoalpinskou tundrou, jedinečnou v rámci celého světa.
The Krkonoše National Park was declared in 1963. On an area of almost 550 km2, it includes the highest mountains of the Czech Republic with the dominant Sněžka (1602 m above sea level). The subject of protection are mountain forests, flowery meadows, folk architecture and the Krkonoše tundra. We speak of the Giant Mountains as an island of the Arctic in the middle of Europe. Nordic nature meets alpine nature here, so in this oldest Czech national park we can meet the arcto-alpine tundra, unique in the whole world.
