Muldoon and Halloran board the Staten Island Ferry to persuade an old friend, the ferryboat captain, to retire. A gang holds up an armored car carrying bank deposits, and the mob’s leader shoots a fireman in the engine room, where the two policemen are stopped at gunpoint.
