Jessica Fletchers niece Victoria skal giftes, men der kommer noget i vejen. Victorias kommende mand, Howard, havner nemlig øverst på listen over mistænkte, da natklubejeren Al Drake findes myrdet. Kan Jessica bevise, at Howard er uskyldig? Og kan hun afsløre den rigtige morder?

Jessica besucht ihre Nichte Victoria in San Francisco, um deren Verlobten Howard unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Beim näheren Hinsehen entpuppt sich der junge Mann als erfolgloser Schauspieler mit undurchsichtigem Lebenswandel. Obendrein hat er sich seit Tagen nicht mehr zu Hause blicken lassen. Jessica und Victoria spionieren Howard bis zu einem Nachtclub hinterher, der von Al Drake geleitet wird. Dort kommt es zu einem aufsehenerregenden Zwischenfall: Während der Show erscheint Barbara, die Sekretärin des Clubs, plötzlich auf der Bühne und bezichtigt lauthals einen davonstürzenden Mann des Mordes. Dieser stolpert und landet genau vor Jessicas Füßen: Der Beschuldigte ist Howard...

Jessica heads to San Francisco for the wedding of her niece, Victoria Brandon, only to learn that Victoria is having second thoughts because she suspects that her fiancé, Howard, is having an affair. Although Jessica and Victoria are relieved to learn that Howard isn't cheating but rather dressing up as a woman to perform at a nightclub, the relief is short lived when Howard is arrested for murdering his boss, Al Drake, who had been refusing to pay him. The police are convinced that Drake was shot during Freddy York's act, which doesn't leave a lot of time, but Jessica is determined to prove Howard's innocence.

Purtroppo la giovane teme che il futuro marito la stia tradendo e chiede alla zia di accompagnarla nel night dove forse Howard incontra la sua amante. Una volta giunte nel locale, però, alle due donne spetta una doppia sorpresa: il proprietario del night è appena stato assassinato e il principale indiziato è Howard, che si esibisce ogni sera in veste di "chanteuse"...

Jessica visita a su sobrina Victoria ''Vicky'' Brandon en San Francisco, que le cuenta que su novio Howard no trabaja vendiendo seguros de vida como pretende hacerle creer. Las chicas van al night-club del Sr. Drake, donde Vicky se entera que Howard trabaja. Allí lo ven actuando vestido de travesti, y lo que es peor: durante la actuación de Michael Dupont, Howard se queda en estado de pánico después de encontrar cuerpos de Drake asesinado.

Jessica vai a San Francisco para o casamento de sua sobrinha, Victoria Brandon, apenas para descobrir que Victoria está pensando duas vezes porque suspeita que seu noivo, Howard, esteja tendo um caso. Embora Jessica e Victoria estejam aliviadas ao saber que Howard não está traindo, mas se vestindo como uma mulher para se apresentar em uma boate, o alívio é breve quando Howard é preso por assassinar seu chefe, Al Drake, que estava se recusando a pagar ele.
