Adam Young, a fourteen-year-old genius, starts work as a high school science teacher. When the school bully, Jordan "Slab" Slabinski, threatens to beat him up and steals Adam's master key and wreaks havoc throughout the school. Now Adam must get creative in order to resolve the conflict and outwit the big oaf, or his first day on the job could be his last.
When Adam has trouble controlling his class, he creates a robot student, Arthur, to enforce the rules. When Mr. Tater finds out, he figuratively says that he is going to kill Adam. However, Arthur takes it literally and tries to destroy Tater, as one of his directives is to protect Adam. Adam and Derby must stop his creation, or he himself could be "terminated."
When Adam's "college buddy," a gorgeous twenty-three-year-old girl, comes to visit, Adam thinks she wants to be more than just friends. Derby finds out that she has a boyfriend and has to try to stop Adam from embarrassing himself on their date. Meanwhile, Echo convinces Slab to stage a non-violent protest to prevent Tater from getting rid of the vending machines while Slab gets her to bully people for him.
When a botched experiment in Adam's lab creates a gas making everyone tell the truth. When Tater finds out, he places Adam, Echo, Derby, Slab, and Ivy under quarantine. Derby makes Slab cry and then tries to apologize, but he keeps saying the wrong things. Adam tries to prevent any form of communication between him and Echo because he's afraid that if he talks to her, he will tell her how he feels about her. Ivy tries to get out of the school to get to the mall, but Dang keeps stopping her.
When no one is willing to sign up for the talent show, Mr. Tater offers a get out of detention free card as incentive to sign up. Because no one is getting detention, except for Derby, Tater starts to make new rules in order to give out detentions. When he sees Ivy texting in the hall, he tells her that there is a new rule against it. To avoid getting detention and having to sign up for the talent show, Ivy tries to use different forms of long distance communication, but Tater bans them all. Meanwhile, Adam convinces Echo to sing in the school talent show, but when he realizes she's a terrible singer, he tries to prevent her from taking the stage. Meanwhile, Derby searches for a talent to use in the show.
Adam tries to get his students to appreciate having a young teacher by pretending to be his own substitute, a cranky old man. The students apreciate his subsitute so much that Principal Tater fires Adam! Adam protests so Tater offers a 'teach-off' between the two. Can Adam be in both teachers at the same time?
When Adam is accidentally doused with moth pheromones, he suddenly becomes the object of Echo's attention... but fears he may be turning into a moth. This episode is shown to be Echo's dream where she cannot believe she was attracted to Adam, however she looks at him with a feeling that she really does like him.
After a prank gone wrong Derby accidentally knocks Santa out of his sleigh on Christmas Eve, causing him to lose his memory. So Adam, Derby, Echo, Ivy and Slab delivered the presents to the world. When they come back (everybody except Derby), they find out that Santa only pretended to lose his memory, and claimed he was lazy and he himself was on the naughty list. This show is mostly Derby's dream.
With Principal Tater constantly on Adam's back, Adam and Echo decide to calm his frustrations by finding him a woman. This proves more difficult than expected. But when Echo convinces Adam to match Tater up with Adam's mom, Rachel, everyone is happy everyone, except Adam. Meanwhile, Derby tries to cure Slab's phobia of milk.
Set on teaching his students the importance of getting a good night's rest, Adam conducts a sleep deprivation experiment at Finnegan. He uses his students as the test subjects, and challenges them to stay awake for the entire night, while hanging out in his class. As the night wears on, the group endures everything from exhaustion to hallucinations, while the various effects of sleep deprivation set in.
The producer of the popular science-based TV show, "Science Schmeince" arrives at Finnegan, looking to hire Adam as the show's new host. Adam agrees, seeing this as a great opportunity to spread his love of science to a broad audience. But, when the producer grows bored of Adam's science-y technobabble, he hires Derby as the zanier host of the show.
Having had his career ruined by Derby, Preston Pickles takes a job as Finnegan High's new shop teacher. But while no one else will believe him, Derby is convinced that Preston is trying to get rid of him. Derby must find a way to restart Preston's career as an infomercial pitchman, or face the wrath of the Derbinator 3000.
A teenage girl, Brap, is accidentally transported from her home in the rainforest to Adam's classroom. She speaks no English, has superhuman strength, and believes she is an elephant! Impressed by her animal nature, Slab falls in love at first sight. But Brap only has eyes for Adam. While Echo and Adam try to help Brap fit in at Finnegan, Slab tries to win her affections. Then Ivy trains Brap to be like her and renames her Briannna (as she claimed it was with 3 n's) and teaches her to talk and teaches her that she is a homosapien.
In hopes of getting Derby to stop acting up, Adam and Principal Tater decide he needs some responsibility. They suggest Derby run for Student Council President. However, when Derby does them one better by campaigning for School Superintendent, Adam and Tater must stop him from winning or risk losing their jobs. Meanwhile, Echo helps Slab for his cousin's birthday.
Adam's robot from a previous episode, ARTHUR, returns after being defeated and recycling himself and reprogrammed himself to make android copies of all humans, but the person he is based on comes and he knocks him unconscious at the end. Meanwhile, Echo writes a report about the dangers of robotics, but chaos ensues when the robot Echo holds a paper about the wonders of robotics. But the Derby robot does not get replaced.
When Adam finds out that Echo is obsessed with Dark Demon, a heavy metal musician that Adam knew in college, he tries to get his old friend to come to Finnegan High. But when Dark Demon refuses to make an appearance, Adam pretends to be the leather-clad rocker, and must perform at Echo's Save the Ferrets benefit.
After Adam secretly tweaks Echo's science fair project, she wins first prize. With everyone thinking Echo is a genius, she is instantly graduated from Finnegan and offered a full scholarship to Great Northern University. Now Adam, with the help of Derby and Slab, must crash a frat party and convince Echo to come back to Finnegan.
Adam tries to get Derby off of a computer game called Pixel City. Derby is spending all his time on the computer, playing "Pixel City," as his virtual alter-ego, Antoine Bolognese. Set on convincing Derby to rejoin the real world, Adam enters the game to track him down. But it won't be easy, since Derby has digitally recreated the entire Finnegan gang to serve and protect him.
When Derby didn't get his free toy with his cereal, he and Adam goes to Cyclops Foods to talk with the head of the company, an actual one-eyed cyclops. Meanwhile, Slab joins the school's knitting club, and later gets obsessed with it, but it turns out to have caused more trouble as the nerds are messing around too much with the school.
Adam, Echo, Derby, Ivy and Slab tell the principal how they destroyed Tater's scooter in aseries of flashbacks. When Adam, Echo, Derby, Ivy, and Slab find themselves waiting outside Principal Tater's office together, they realize they're all in trouble for the same crime - wrecking Principal Tater's scooter. We hear their stories, which include hamsters being born, chickens being freed, and trips to Ireland.
When Adam coaches the Engineering Squad in a paper airplane competition he finds that Slab is a master at it and recruits him.Meanwhile Ivy is tring to look ugly so that the nerds will want to "obtain" her. With the paper airplane competition approaching, Finnegan High's Engineering Squad has no hope against rival Western High - that is, until Adam discovers Slab's untapped paper-folding genius. Adam must convince Slab to embrace his inner nerd and join the squad.
Arthur returns and makes Adam & Echo babysit Authur's kids. Meanwhile, Derby and Ivy decide to dress up as robots so they can make friends with Arthur. ARTHUR returns to Finnegan with his new robot family and asks Adam to babysit his "grandkids." Adam agrees and tries to impress Echo with his parenting skills, but soon realizes that dealing with kids is not as easy as it looks.
Adam can't get peace and quiet so he buys his own apartment. Thing go wrong when everyone piles in for their own reason. So now, with the help of his mom, they try to get out of the lease. Meanwhile, Tater enlists that Dang help in fooling his new girlfriend Gwen that he's a billionaire living in a mansion. He ends up telling her the truth thinking that she'll like him better but she doesn't and she leaves. Adam ends up selling Tater his apartment.
Adam makes a drink that will make him more confident to ask Echo out, but it ends up wrong when he turns into a monster. And even worse is that whenever he talks or thinks about Echo being cute he turns into the monster. Now he must stay away from Echo to prevent from turning into the monster. But in the end, Echo accidentally drinks the potion and now when she thinks about Adam being cute she turns into a monster.
Mr. Kidd's students like him a lot and think he's fun even though he does the same thing Adam does. Adam tries to change the Memory-Eraser to make it bring back Echo's memory, then Mr. Kid finds out but promises not to tell anyone or to get together with Echo. Slab and Ivy have to do a book report on George Orwell's 1984. They borrow Mr. Tater tape of the movie and when they see it they find out that Adam's mom and Tater used to date and they kissed. Ivy states that she never knew her father. Adam and Ivy's hair consistently falls out, which may mean that their father is Tater. Mr. Kid uses the reversed Memory-Eraser on Echo and they start dating. Shortly after he uses it on everyone and they forget that Adam ever existed. At the end Echo remembers Adam when they kiss. Then he restores everyone’s memory by kissing them, Mr. Kidd gets fired.
Dang is called back to Vietnam to take over for Master Ki as guardian of his village. The gang heads to Vietnam to try and convince Dang to come back to Finnegan for graduation. While there, Adam discovers an ancient scroll that points to the mythical fountain of youth, which if found, could make Master Ki young again, releasing Dang from his duties. But to find the fountain, Adam must go up against Echo who is trying to preserve the leaf monkey habitat.
While Adam and Derby explore a hidden, underground temple in search of the fountain of youth, Tater helps Echo learn about monkey behavior, and Ivy helps Slab prepare for his first ever cover model photo shoot. All roads lead to a confrontation with a local fancy hat factory owner, who has been keeping a secret from the villagers for generations. In the end, Adam gets the gang back to Finnegan, just in time for graduation.
