Mr Pastry, the slapstick character complete with walrus moustache and flapping coattails, was the popular creation of actor-acrobat-dancer Richard Hearne and was a great success for many years with young viewers. Hearne’s character was also a big hit with general audiences on ATV’s Sunday Night at the London Palladium and American CBS TV’s The Ed Sullivan Show. His later children’s TV series included Leave It To Mr Pastry (1960), Ask Mr Pastry (1961) and Mr Pastry’s Pet Shop (1962).
