Sergeant Eavis is investigating a series of zodiac-inspired murders, and his Chief Constable feels they need expert advice. The Chief Constable recruits James Wainwright, an old adversary of Gladys's, while Eavis consults Gladys, setting the two psychics at each other's throats. A TV appearance by Wainwright provokes Gladys into publicly challenging him, and she later goes on to accuse him of the actual murders. However Trevor and Cecile learn that all three victims have in some way wronged a fourth man, Richard Parris, whom Gladys recognises as a man who had come to her earlier for a palm reading, but had scoffed because her conclusions did not match a reading given to him many years before by James Wainwright. This leads her to believe that Wainwright may be the next intended victim. Eavis will no longer listen to her, so she and Trevor resolve to warn Wainwright themselves.
