The First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) is rarely covered, yet it is crucial for understanding the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) and the Second Sino-Japanese War. In this video we look at the underlying causes, like the weakness of China, the Rise of Japan, the Westernization of Japan, the importance of Korea and the Russian Trans-Siberian Railroad. Additionally, a short overview on the course of the war on the sea and on land will be covered. A short discussion on both the Chinese and Japanese shortcomings will be followed by the terms of the treaty, the following Western Invervention and finally the long-term implications of the Japanese Victory and the weakening of China.
