Ghost Plane (Helios Airways Flight 522)

Boeing 737 kyperské společnosti Helios měl už za sebou mnoho drobných poruch a naposledy problémy s těsností přetlakové kabiny. 14. srpna 2005 letěl z Larnaky do Atén, když pár minut po vzletu spustil alarm. Pilotům radil technik z centrály, ale po chvíli se spojení ztratilo a s ním i naděje na záchranu všech na palubě.

Flug 522 der zypriotischen Airline Helios ist von Larnaka über Athen auf dem Weg nach Prag. Kurz nach dem Start fällt der Kabinendruck ab. Fluggäste und Besatzung werden ohnmächtig. Nach drei Stunden Blindflug im Autopilotmodus geht der Boeing 737 in der Nähe von Athen der Treibstoff aus. Die Passagiermaschine stürzt ab. Alle 121 Insassen kommen ums Leben. Warum fiel der Kabinendruck urplötzlich ab?

Alternative title: "Unconscious Pilot" 14 August 2005: Helios Airways Flight 522 takes-off from Cyprus. As it flies over Greece, air traffic controllers lose radio contact with it. Fighter jets are sent up to meet with the Boeing 737. One of the jets get close to the plane only to see that the First Officer is alone and unconscious in the flight deck. Everyone in the cabin is also unconscious and oxygen masks are dangling from the cabin ceiling. The captain is missing. Then, the fighter jet pilot witnesses someone enter the cockpit. The mysterious person appears to be trying to regain control of the aircraft, but it is too late. Soon, Flight 522 runs out of fuel and dives into a hill near Marathon. There are no survivors. After a thorough investigation, the mysterious person is found out to be a flight attendant that had been working on the flight who managed to stay conscious by using a portable oxygen mask as opposed to the aircraft's installed oxygen masks. This solved the mystery of who the fighter pilot was looking at before the aircraft went down.

L'avion en provenance de Chypre a pour plan de vol un atterrissage à Athènes. Le contrôle aérien perd pourtant le contact radio avec l'appareil dès le début du trajet. De surcroît, le plan de vol n'est pas du tout respecté : l'avion continue en ligne droite son trajet au-dessus de la Grèce, bien loin de la capitale dépassée depuis longtemps. 2 turbos-jets militaires sont envoyés à sa rencontre, puisqu'il y a suspicion de détournement. Les pilotes militaires signalent que l'appareil est sans défaut de dépressurisation, sans incendie à bord, mais le copilote est inconscient, le pilote introuvable et que les masques à oxygène pendent dans la cabine. Un steward entre dans le cockpit pour tenter de prendre les commandes, fait des signes aux militaires. L'appareil s'écrase près de Marathon ayant épuisé tout son carburant.

Il volo Helios Airways 522 (HCY 522 o ZU522) era un collegamento di linea operato dalla compagnia cipriota Helios Airways tra gli aeroporti di Larnaca e Atene, che precipitò il 14 agosto 2005 nei pressi di Grammatiko, nella zona montuosa a nord di Maratona e Varnavas, in Grecia.

Myśliwce wojskowe śledzą krążący nad Atenami samolot pasażerski. Piloci nie odpowiadają na wezwania wieży kontroli lotów. Wszyscy obawiają się porwania. Pilot myśliwca zgłasza brak jakiegokolwiek ruchu w kabinie maszyny. Po trzech godzinach od startu, w Boeingu 737 linii Helios Airways kończy się paliwo. Samolot przechyla się na lewe skrzydło i spada na ziemię w pobliżu wzgórza Grammatikos. Nikt nie przeżył katastrofy.

Когда диспетчеры в Афинах потеряли связь с самолетом рейса НА-552, летевшим с Кипра, на поиски были отправлены два истребителя F-16. Их пилотам оставалось лишь наблюдать, как лайнер врезался в гору.

El 14 de agosto de 2005, los controladores de tráfico aéreo perdieron el contacto por radio con el vuelo 522 de Helios Airways. Dos cazas de la Fuerza Aérea Griega fueron enviados para examinar el vuelo encontrando a todos inmóviles, menos a uno. Poco después, el avión se quedó sin combustible y se estrelló, matando a las 121 personas a bordo. La causa se atribuyó a una configuración de presurización incorrecta, que llevó a la incapacitación por hipoxia de todos a bordo.

Quando a torre de controlo de Atenas não consegue estabelecer contacto com o voo 522 vindo de Chipre, são enviados dois F-16 para reportar sobre a situação, apenas para poderem assistir impotentes à colisão do avião numa montanha.
