Nina is excited about going on a vacation to Catalina Island with Tommy. Meanwhile, Shakespere is depressed; he is getting too many rejection notices for his writing efforts. Tommy comes over to tell Nina that Mrs. Clark, who was to chaperone Nina, cannot go to Catalina. Mama arranges it so that everyone in the boarding house except her and Crisino go to Catalina. She will stay home and get a real vacation.
Dreamers Nikolai and Roberto decide to look for work and plan to go into the restaurant business, while Nikolai will also get married.
Nina and her friend Estelle decide to quit their stenography jobs in order to try to break into the movies. Meanwhile, Roberto gets his big break: he is to appear in a film version of the life of the explorer Cortez. When the female lead has to drop out, Estelle gets her hopes up for the part. But it seems that she just is not an actress. Nina decides to return to her job when her boss says he cannot do without her; and Estelle decides to return to work as well, possibly at ABC, where the brother of Nina's boss works.
