Paul Fogerolles, jeune instituteur affecté dans un cours moyen deuxième année de l'École Valentin HULOT de Montreuil-sous-Bois, dans la banlieue parisienne. La trentaine avec une dégaine originale, et quelques préjugés solides sur la pédagogie et les bons ou mauvais élèves, va en effet se trouver confronté à des débuts un peu difficiles qui vont bousculer ses certitudes, ainsi que la rencontre avec la jolie psychologue Christine Valadier.
