Von Alaska aus begleitet Lassie Scott nach Mexiko. Er soll den Betrieb von Mr. Denning prüfen, der dort Pferde und Rinder züchtet. Eines Tages wird sein Jagdhund Jason von einem Jaguar angefallen. Ein Puma eilt ihm zu Hilfe. Es kommt zu einem erbitterten Kampf.
Lassie stands guard over the injured watchdog as the jaguar and cougar battle. The jaguar retreats in defeat and Lassie recognizes the cougar as a friend from days past. Lassie summons the rangers to eliminate the hostile jaguar for good.
