「桶狭間の戦い」直前、風雲急を告げる尾張領内で一人の浪人が一人の少女を助ける。少女は両親を戦によって失い、浪人は岩倉織田氏の家老だった父を織田信長によって攻め滅ぼされていた。少女の名は千代、浪人の名は山内伊右衛門一豊。一豊は古参の家臣・五藤吉兵衛、祖父江新右衛門とともに、信長の首を狙うため尾張領内をさすらい歩いていた。戦いののち、信長の草履取りとして働いていた木下藤吉郎（後の豊臣秀吉）の与力となった一豊と、戦を嫌って美濃へと去っていった千代。美濃攻めで再会した二人は、「一国一城」の夢に向かい、手を携えあって戦国の世を生き抜いていく―。

功名十字路（功名が辻～山内一豊の妻～）是NHK於2006年製播的第45部大河劇，也是自1994年的花之亂以後，再次以女性歷史人物當第一主角的大河劇。
