Anwalt Richard Avery hat sich an der Börse verspekuliert. Dringend braucht er 20.000 Dollar. In seiner Verzweiflung wendet er sich an seinen Schwiegervater. Der händigt seiner Tochter Laura das Geld für ihren Gatten aus. Nicht, ohne daran ein paar Bedingungen zu knüpfen. Diana hat sich in einen jungen Mann verliebt. Der setzt alles daran, ihr zu imponieren.

When Richard lands in grave financial trouble, Laura wants to get a job to assist with the debt, but Richard won't hear of it. Richard throws a barbecue to try to borrow money from his neighbors to pay off the $20,000 he owes. When Sid finds he is missing a one hundred-dollar bill, Karen thinks it is merely coincidental. When Laura's father, who's visiting from out of town, lends them the money, Richard is relieved. After Karen worries that Diana is spending too much time with her boyfriend, the boyfriend turns out to be the thief of the hundred-dollar bill.

Un mauvais investissement fait que Richard a des problèmes financiers. Au lieu de permettre à Laura de trouver un travail pour rembourser leur dette de 20000 $, Richard demande à ses voisins puis au père de Laura, Hank, de l'argent. Ce dernier décide de prêter de l'argent à Laura à la seule condition que Richard la laisse travailler. Richard accepte à contrecoeur. Le petit ami de Diana, Terry, vole 100 $ à Sid puis il ment à Diana en disant qu'il n'a rien pris. Il avoue finalement la vérité mais toute la confiance qu'avait Diana en lui est perdue.
