The premiere of the documentary series, which examines the case of death-row inmate Richard Glossip, who was convicted of murdering his boss, a motel owner, based on the testimony of maintenance worker Justin Sneed, who admitted to killing the victim and whose fingerprints were found at the crime scene. Sneed cut a deal: testify against Glossip in exchange for a life sentence.

Er war wegen der Anstiftung zum Mord an Motel-Besitzer Barry Van Treese zum Tode verurteilt worden – eine Anschuldigung, die er jahrelang bestritt. Kurz vor dem Vollzug wird die Hinrichtung jedoch erneut verschoben, da erst geprüft werden muss, ob der geplante tödliche Giftcocktail rechtlich zulässig ist. Dieser soll jetzt nämlich Kaliumacetat enthalten, das das bisher genutzte Kaliumchlorid ersetzt.
