ปานแก้วถูกป้าของเธอขายให้กับซ่องโสเภณี ซึ่งป้ามีความเกลียดชังแม่ของปานแก้วที่หายตัวไปและทำให้พ่อของเธอเสียชีวิตจากโรคซึมเศร้า เธอได้พบกับสุริยะจากเวียงพรหม ซึ่งปกปิดตัวตนภายใต้ชื่อซัน เนื่องจากพ่อของเขาถูกลุงจับตัวไป ทั้งคู่จึงร่วมกันตามหาสร้อยข้อมือที่เรียกว่า ขวัญหล้า
