Karina flies to Mana Pools National Park (a wildlife heritage site) and settles into a luxury tented safari
site called Classic safaris. Karina is guided by the intrepid Craig Van Zyl and they begin their
walking/driving safari. In search of the world renowned bull elephants, the humor begins as Craig
entices Karina to taste fresh elephant dung! These bull elephants are the only African elephants that
reach for albida pods on their hind legs, and Karina manages to experience this spectacle. They make
their way towards the mighty Zambezi River and come across a walking hippo and Craig catches a
monitor lizard for Karina to touch. Craig and Karina begin driving in Craig’s Land Rover and Karina asks if
she can try spotting from sitting on the bonnet! She spots a bull elephant and the adrenaline begins
pumping as the inquisitive elephant saunters up to Karina. The great beast smells Karina and gently
pushes her left leg with a tusk. Emotions run high as Karina can’t quite believe what just happened!
Craig and Karina explore the area and experience a territorial aggressive hippo in one of the picturesque
pools. Craig finds a hippo skull and demonstrates the jaw structure. Once again, they enjoy a close
encounter with another huge bull elephant. Back at camp that evening, a pride of lions run through
camp (just behind Karina’s tent) and Craig helps Karina to track them the following morning. We find the
lions are mating and attempt to get up close. What follows is truly astonishing …. Craig and Karina are
mock charged by the male lion …. TWICE! The lion halts his charge within about 5 meters each time and
theadrenaline flows. Karina is treated to an awesome canoeing safari on the stunning Zambezi river.
They navigate past fascinating animals and once again, a bull elephant displays his dominance. These 2
episodes are truly wild and humorous with never a dull moment.
