Türk edebiyatı ve sinemasında göç olgusu işlenirken, taşradan büyük şehre gelip orada savrulan, talihsizce batağa ve çukura sürüklenen bilhassa genç kızlarımızın hikayesi çokça anlatılmıştır. Kapıları Açmak bu çerçevede tam bir “ters hikaye” dir. Eserin kahramanı Zehra olmaz denilen şeyi oldurmak üzere, büyük şehir batağından kaçıp evine, baba ocağına döner. Orada yeni ve temiz bir hayat kurmak için mücadele verir. Bu elbette zor bir süreçtir. Yazar bu süreci işlerken fonda son elli yılın Türkiye’sinde, kıyı kasabalarında vücut bulan sosyal değişimi kırık bir aşk hikâyesi etrafında işliyor.
