The Last Word

Nachdem er von seinem Posten im Stab des Gouverneurs enthoben wurde, kehrt Stuart Collins verärgert nach Hartford zurück und gibt ungerechterweise Amy die Schuld für seine Abberufung. Bevor Amy ihn jedoch davon überzeugen kann, dass sie nichts mit der Sache zu tun hat, erleidet er einen Herzinfarkt. Als Amy ihn ein paar Tage später im Krankenhaus besucht, gesteht er ihr, dass er sich bereits bei ihrer ersten Begegnung unsterblich in sie verliebt hat. Maxine arbeitet derweil an einen kniffligen Fall: Leslie, die adoptierte Tochter der Crouses neigt zu so aggressivem Verhalten, dass das Ehepaar das Wohl seiner leibliche Tochter gefährdet sieht und daran denkt, Leslie wieder wegzugeben. Als Maxine ein wenig verspätet dort ankommt, hat sich das Problem auf dramatische Art und Weise erledigt: Mrs. Crouse hat Leslie erstickt.

After pleas from Maxine and Peter, Amy takes the first step in mending fences with Vincent; back in town with a new job working in the prosecutor's office, Stu Collins has a near-fatal heart attack after a verbal altercation with Amy, who is unable to contact any of his friends or family; Maxine tries to help a couple who cannot agree about giving up the special needs child they adopted, but is unable to avert the tragic outcome of their dilemma; the teenage son of a mobster appears in Amy's court for setting a fire which destroyed a store and maimed an employee after an argument with the store's owner; on the road to recovery, Stu confesses to Amy that he's had a crush on her for years; Amy and Bruce test the boundaries of their relationship.

Amy er rundt på gulvet - hun er ikke på talefod med sin bror Vincent og dommer i en vanskelig sag, hvor sønnen af en mafiaboss er anklaget for ildspåsættelse. Men helt galt bliver det, da Amy's tidligere rival fra college, Stuart, falder om med et hjerteanfald, imens han og Amy er oppe at skændes. Maxine bliver kontaktet af adoptionsforældrene til en pige, som slår, bider og er så voldelig, at forældrene vil returnere hende til myndighederne.
