Host: Jon Production: Jon - http://www.instagram.com/jwayniac Editing: schnüdlbug - http://www.instagram.com/schnudlbug We're back, and this time I brought replicants. This is a walkthrough of my process with the Octatrack Mk II. I wouldn't necessarily call it a tutorial but I believe there's some things here that can be of use to anyone getting into making beats. I do my best to make sure what I'm attempting to teach is applicable to users of any machine or DAW. 0:00 Intro 0:43 Slicing Sample 2:32 Playing Slices 3:04 Compression on Sample 4:45 Sequencing Sample 9:55 Finding Some Drums 12:10 Building More Patterns 13:03 What Else? 16:17 Enjoying It
Welcome back. Today, we're going to learn how to adapt to your own stupid mistakes. This is a walkthrough process video of making hip hop beats on the Octatrack mk II. The original recording of this session was roughly 4 hours in length and has been edited down for your viewing pleasure. If you'd like to see this happen in real time, go ahead and follow the link above to my Twitch channel. 0:00 Intro 0:19 Slicing Sample 1:34 Playing Slices 2:18 Sequencing Sample 4:17 Find Some Drums 5:35 Push Them Back 6:52 More Drums 7:28 Computer Time 9:58 Instruments 11:13 Tighten It Up 12:44 DUB 14:08 A Lead 16:23 Enjoying

Anyway...if you want to see me make more beats please subscribe to the Youtube and if you want to be there when it happens I have a Twitch (saturnmane). Welcome to the new and improved Jon Makes Beats Youtube channel. This is a complete overhaul from the previous videos and we're really proud to show you what we're working on. Take a look at this sitar beat I made on the Elektron Octatrack Mk II by using a combination of sampling and MIDI sequencing. I figure it was time I step out of my comfort zone on this channel and incorporate a drum machine and make some electronic music. I love the way the Elektron machines work but this is the first time I've had them communicate with each other like this and I love the way they all feel like just one big machine when they come together. It's a lot of fun and if anyone gets the opportunity to do something similar I would highly suggest it. 0:00 Introducing What We're About To Do 0:30 Chopping Up The Sample on the Octatrack 1:15 Creating Drum Patterns on the Analog Rytm mk II 2:57 Creating Leads on the Analog Keys by Playing 4:05 Creating Bass on the Analog Keys Using Sequencer 4:35 Making New Drum Patterns on the Analog Rytm mk II 5:08 Playing Around With The Parts I've Created

This is the Elektron Octatrack, the most misunderstood sampler in decades. Today, we'll go through the process of making a hip-hop beat on here and have some fun along the way. I cracked up at the flute part. Wasn't ready for that. This is definitely the most fun I've had with a hardware sampler and I would suggest at least taking a deeper look into it if you're in the market for one. 0:00 Introduction 0:16 Slicing Samples On The Octatrack 1:32 Adding A Drum Break to the Beat 2:08 How To Play Instruments on The Octatrack 2:59 Utilizing Parts To Expand Unique Tracks 4:04 Getting More Instruments Into The Octatrack 4:20 Steel Drums In The Beat 5:08 Adding Some Sound Effects To The Beat 6:25 This Sampler has a Crossfader! 6:44 Listening To The Finished Beat
I'm sure I'm not the only one when I say that the Christmas season makes me feel like a kid, again. It happens every year without fail. One way I can capture that feeling is to take Christmas songs that remind me of my childhood and reimagine them into something that better describes how they make me feel. The Octatrack definitely helps me with that. 0:00 I'm Now on Patreon!
