Together with her camera and sound crew (Rubin, Kilpatrick), Jessica Novak (Miss Shaver) roams the Los Angeles area in search of exclusive, provocative, personalized and challenging news stories. Her dream of being a top investigative reporter is hindered by news director Maxwell Kenyon (Spielberg) who sees her only as his ace human-interest reporter and assigns her to colorful but less in-depth assignments. However, the indomitable Novak still manages to come up with the big story. Jessica will cover lifeguard illnesses traced to a drainage ditch, dodge the attentions of an overdevoted fan and admirer, interview a fugitive Indian activist wanted on a manslaughter charge and report on the drug trial of a former grid star.
