A 14 year old child dances to high school musical 2
Russell and Jarvis join forces once again after a caffeine binge to GET DOWN! Geddan is a japanese internet meme that is sweeping the nation. It originated from the popular japanese video streaming site, Nico Nico Douga, after a glitch was discovered in the Nintendo 64 game Goldeneye 007. Enjoy and GET DOWN!
After 10 years of not creating, this is how I am getting over the fear of not living up to expectations.
5 easy ways I improved my quality of life (after college) Learn how to adult by: 1. Buying in Bulk 2. Eating Consciously 3. Getting things done 4. Managing your money 5. Treating yo self
I'm Jarvis and I work as a Software Engineer in San Francisco. This is the story of when I went to Tokyo on Vacation! See the many ways I embarrass myself in Japan. I also reflect on the nature of vacation.
A couple of software engineers get lost in Kyoto but did we ever get found? Nick finally gets what's coming to him and I make bad puns in front of large groups of Japanese people. We also climb a mountain in hong kong. Little guest star from my friend Mayuko, check out her channel Also Scott and Kona (the dog), but they're not on youtube yet.
This video is about how you can start writing code and making software. I do it for a living now, but it started on a TI-84 calculator my senior year of high school. Ask me questions in the comments! Here's some resources me or my friends have found helpful in getting started throughout the years
A parody of my experiences interviewing for software engineering jobs in silicon valley.
I surprised my coworkers and gave them 5 seconds to answer life's toughest questions. They had no idea what was coming.
People make fun of you for a lot of stupid stuff in middle school. For me, it was liking Fall out boy (and emo music in general), playing runescape (because in the land of gielnor, I am truly free), and skateboarding, which I never got good enough at to be accepted. The reason I feel it's important to talk about things from the past is that we all go through it (except Jacob Sartorius) and no matter your position in life from Middle school to middle age, you're going to look back at this point in the past and see how that shaped you. For me, that meant continuing to "just do me" at all costs - just kidding, it resulted in self-doubt, insecurities and a need for validation - which reminds me please like and subscribe because all of this is meaningless. The shirt, obama impression, and jacob sartorius dig are inspired by Nathan Zed, one of my favorite youtubers. Go check him
Me and my friend Mayuko pick random youtube challenges out of a hat. We do compliment wars, the accent challenge, the roast yourself challenge, try not to laugh challenge (we laugh), and the whisper challenge.
Today I'm talking about my experiences with imposter syndrome. I recognize that everyone's experience is different, but I hope my view on things connects with someone out there. Despite the takeaways from this video, imposter syndrome is still something I deal with. I made this video as a reminder to myself and my friends that we all may experience these imposter feelings, but that doesn't make us any less deserving of success. So obviously just intern at google and then you'll have your moment of self-realization, kidding obviously - but try imaging your peers with the same insecurities that you have. Just because it's not observable doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I got a lot of the inspiration for this video from School of life and Heben Nigatu talks on the same topic
Insecurity, shame, vulnerability, we've all felt it and it doesn't really feel good, but what if it did? As an a wild experiment, I share my biggest insecurities with my youtube audience and talk about vulnerability and how the summer I spent at yelp as a software engineer taught me that putting yourself out there can be a strength and I don't always need to know all the answers.
What programming language should you learn? How did I get a job at google? How much money do software engineers in silicon valley make? Watch me respond to these questions and more as I get drunk with my best friend in Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you so much to the nearly 2,000 people who've joined this community. I'm so thankful for all of you. Think of this as my drunken love letter to you all. Here's to you!.. and me. wine is delicious. Let me know what you think of this! I could totally see My Drunk CS Advice being a series. Until next upload, thanks for everything! ✌????
The holidays are upon us! To get you into the spirit, me and my fabulous friend Mayuko play a game where we try to guess popular holiday songs after their lyrics have been google translated to various languages and then back to english.
It's a new year! Let's talk about why we shouldn't let the sunk cost of our past decisions dictate our future ones. Hopefully we all have some room to experiment this year. How are you going to experiment?
After my Sophomore year of college, in the summer of 2012 I worked at Google Headquarters as a Software Engineering Intern in Mountain View, CA. This is the incredible true story of how I got a job at Google by failing my interview.
a typical and not at all fictional day in my life as a software engineer in san francisco, california
I typed "How to become a software engineer" into google and the results will surprise you! - or not? they're pretty bad. This is a new type of video for me, so let me know what you think! We're looking at the first google result for "how to become a software engineer", which is a wikihow article apparently. We look at a kind of alarming random medium post about how to become a software developer (spoiler alert: it requires immense dedication). Then, apparently the market is crashing so we look at business insider's 17 tips on how to keep your software engineering job even during a market crash - topical i know. finally i found this ridiculous video of lifehacks to do if you work at a computer all day.. i can't believe these things exist. The style was heavily inspired by drew gooden, so check him out Also, we hit 4k subscribers! I wanted to thank you all so much. I'm extremely grateful that y'all put up with me.
I'm on vacation! or, i was. it's all over now. this is a totally real and not at all dramatized retelling of my vacation in new york city. I've been feeling super burnt out lately and I needed to take a break. I think it's healthy to admit that we're human and, working in the tech industry, it's often not cool to do so. i can't not be a goof ball. sorry
Why I didn't take my return job offer at Google I talk about my reasons for not joining google for a returning internship and ultimately not for full-time employment. Instead, I took an internship at yelp and then accepted a fulltime offer there (where I worked up until middle of 2016) I hope this can give you an idea of my decision making process during a particularly difficult/transitional time.
Have you ever had a low GPA? Failed a class? Walked out of a microsoft interview?... just me? I'm joined today by Mayuko (Software Engineer) and CharliMarieTV (Designer) to discuss career failure in all of its unintuitive glory. but also prepare to laugh so hard you cry for some reason.
Does GPA matter on resumes? Do side projects help you get a job? Should I include community service on my resume? I don't know! But I can show you all of my resumes from freshman year to present day. A resume is meant to impress recruiters and hiring managers and help you get internships and jobs. We take a look at the resume mistakes (and also tips) that helped me get hired as a software engineer.
I don't fit many of the the stereotypes for software engineers. People are always so surprised to find out what I do that it makes wonder if I belong in this industry in the first place.
What is a life hack? I still don't know, but I found a bunch of youtube and tried them out. I still can't believe I ruined a shirt for this I stole this idea from drew gooden, and danny gonzalez, and cody ko
8 years ago, I started college at Georgia Tech as a computer science major.. which officially means I'm old now. College admissions are coming out so I figured now's a good time to give some college advice I wish someone had told me. I go through college misconceptions that I had back then and discuss my own college experience. I got rejected form my dream school, i moved out of state for school where I didn't know anyone. I didn't binge drink every weekend in college, and I gained like 40 pounds my freshman year, but college was still a great experience for me.
So a couple months back I made a parody of my friend Mayuko's video called "another day in the life of a software engineer" and a lot of the events in the video were completely staged, but people for some reason thought it was rea. Since you seem to love these types of videos, I thought I'd give an actual day in the life. Shot this yesterday actually.
Software Engineers have lives outside of work, y'know. Here's what my average weekend looks like. Want more stuff like this? Let me know in the comments. Like the british guy? We host a podcast together.
i'm not a software engineer anymore (spoiler alert: i switched to management) a story on where i've been and where i'm going from when i discovered programming to now yay for trying new things! what did y'all think? this style was heavily inspired by Casey Nesitat and Jack Conte's recent video
Jack, I know you're technically my boss, but I was inspired by your recent videos to Casey Neistat to tell the story of how our paths first crossed. it starts earlier than you'd think. Put simply, you helped me quit my last job. this is the story of how that went down. This is also a bit of a love letter to vlogbrothers because i couldn't help myself
I failed my first math class in 2004 at the ripe old age of 12 and it was all uphill from there. i wanted to talk a bit about failure and ironically lots of stuff that I had planned for this video didn't work out AND it's late so, there you go. i'll be taking my own advice.
I'm finally back from a couple of weeks of travel to talk about beginning your programming journey: Which programming language should you start with? There's a lot of misinformation out there, so I want to clear things up once and for all.If you're in doubt, you should totally just pick python and start making things. You won't regret it. Should I do more videos like this? What do you want to see?
One skill to work on that I guarantee will prepare you for the real world
Whoa, another video? Is this guy a daily vlogger now?I've been waking up at 6am for the past year and I wanted to talk about why I did that and how my life has changed. Thanks to everyone for 30k. Excited to see what's next!
Get a credit card. Just do it. I explain why it's the best financial advice i ever got.
My daily vlogging career is dead. let's talk about burnout
How long term goals can be a first class ticket to disappointment and why I don't buy into them. Also the meetup in SF was an amazing success! The awesome shots of the meetup came from Matt Cho. subscribe to him!!
Learn to code by ordering pizza.
that feeling when you have a phone interview for a job and it goes horribly
A lot of people ask me if work life balance exists as a software engineer or how to balance school and social life as a student. The answer is complicated, so I talk about my journey with work-life balance during and after graduating college and moving to silicon valley for work.
What do programmers actually work on? Why do companies like youtube have thousands of engineers? I ramble my way through answers to these questions inspired by physics girl's on the same topic
I read the youtube algorithm research paper and I think the algorithm created Jake and Logan Paul, but also people like Drew Gooden who are great. I explain some things about algorithms, how youtube's algorithm works, the biases it has and where we go from here.
Maybe you don't actually want to be a software engineer? Here's why
Why I decided to get braces as an adult Here's to the next 2 years ????????
This is my story of weight loss but here's what i'll say, not all parts of it were healthy and not all parts of it were easy and some of it was based on a negative body image that could have been fixed without losing a single pound. Everyone's situation is different and there are going to be more minor and extreme cases than mine. My purpose for sharing my journey is to let people who were in my shoes back then know that they aren't alone.
I typed some questions into Google about Software Engineering and Programming and this is what I found
Why I have avoided this question in the past, in rant form
In this monster of a video I try to answer once and for all whether or not companies are spying on you via your phone/computer’s microphone to target you with advertisements they aren’t, but they’re doing way creepier stuff but i probably won’t convince you because this is the internet. did i succeed? did i fail? what do you think of this format. I bit off way more than I can chew for this one.
Let's find out what these advertisers really know about me
what a whole college degree looks like
What's the deal with troom troom? I do my best to find out I stole this format from drew gooden, and danny gonzalez, and cody ko
Between friday and sunday of last week, I went from 90k subscribers to well over 200k. this is my story of taming the youtube algorithm (for like a day)
The third and final act of the life hacks trilogy. BRIGHT SIDE is a terrible youtube channel that claims to present a positive world view, we look at evidence to the contrary.
The worst channel on youtube has been under our noses this whole time.
Facts verse is a channel that seemingly just copies the content of others and wraps it inside of low-effort videos for profit. There seems to be no editorializing, sourcing, or transformation of the original content whatsoever. Astonishingly, it still gets the facts wrong. Hopefully this video “edutains”; that is, educates and entertains. For copyright issues relating to our channel please contact us directly at - [redacted]@gmail.com It’s entirely possible that all of facts verse’s use of copyrighted work is negotiated via some private process that I can't see / understand or that it’s fair use, but consider me very suspicious. I’m totally open to being wrong here!
I've been thinking about this since watching Shane's Jake Paul series and having my big ol' youtube glowup
It's been 6 months since checked up on our dear friend 5-minute crafts, so I figured it was time to try some of their life hacks for real.

So if you’re a woman reading this right now, be careful cause we’re about to enter testosterone town. I hate that I have to clarify that the above is sarcasm, but it’s 2019 and irony is dead. 5-minute crafts men is bad and today we examine their content.

123 Go! was on top of trending with a video about relatable situations so i invited some friends over to see how relatable they actually are. turns out, completely relatable and i feel bad for even questioning them. they truly have society figured out. Thanks to Jordan and Jessica for returning to the channel and thanks to Sarah for joining as well despite the fact that we never explained what was happening at all. And Thanks to 5-minute crafts for making 123 Go! and Troom Troom for clearly inspiring it.
