Chusonji Temple and other historic places in the town of Hiraizumi have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The sites are located in Iwate prefecture, which suffered significant damage on March 11th. Residents are hoping the World Heritage designation will attract tourists and boost reconstruction in the area. Efforts are already underway to make the most of the selection through the sale of souvenirs and the promotion of products made by companies affected by the disaster.
