Během pátrání po otci se Harm dozvídá, že byl s největší pravděpodobností převezen do sibiřského tábora Beloyka. Není nic jednoduššího, než si bez svolení ruské armády půjčit MIG-21 a bez povolení ke startu vyrazit směr Sibiř. Nad hlubokou tajgou je dostihne několik stíhaček a sevře je do pevných kleští. Před přesně namířenou raketou se na poslední chvíli oba, Harm i Mac, zachrání katapultem. Když do Washingtonu přijde zpráva, že oba tragicky zahynuli, Chegwidden se rozhodne odletět do Moskvy a osobně se o případu informovat.
Oba trosečníci mezitím v převlečení za cikány pokračují ve strastiplné cestě do Beloyky. V patách jim jsou major Sokol a Parlovsky...
Auf der Suche nach seinem im sibirischen Beloyka verschollenen Vater stiehlt Harm eine MIG-29 und fliegt zusammen mit Mac ohne Starterlaubnis los. Über der Taiga werden sie von russischen Abfangjägern abgeschossen, nur knapp können sie sich mit dem Schleudersitz retten. Als Zigeuner verkleidet, setzen Harm und Mac die Reise nach Beloyka fort - doch Major Sokol und Parlovsky bleiben ihnen auf den Fersen. Auf einem Moskauer Flughafen kommt es zu einer folgenschweren Schiesserei.

Having been shot at by Russian fighters, Mac & Harm are forced to eject from their plane, which then noses into the bottom of a very deep lake. The Russians announce to the world that Harm & Mac have been killed, which is broadcasted back to the USA by ZNN reporter Chuck DePalma.
Webb tries to convince the Admiral that they have been killed, but when A.J. learns their bodies haven't been found, A.J. becomes irate and vows to go to Moscow himself to look for them. The SecNav orders A.J. not to go, who replies that the SecNav doesn't want to try & stop him.
In Russia, A.J. meets with DePalma who tells A.J. that he doesn't believe the Russians, that certain things in their story don't add up.
In the woods, a husband & wife gypsies come across Harm & Mac. They are disappointed when they learn that Harm & Mac are not American Spies as at least the spies have gold coins to give to Russians that help them. Mac states they don't have gold coins, but shows them a wad of US dollars and asks

Mac és Harm az oroszoktól ellopott gépen elindulnak, miközben követik őket, és elindítanak egy gépet a megsemmisítésükre. A virginiai főhadiszálláson egy félrevezető hírt közölnek, miszerint a két amerikai egy véletlen folytán lezuhant Oroszországban. Chegwidden admirális azonnal Moszkvába utazik a szerencsétlenség tisztázására. Mac és Harm egy fiatal cigánylány és bátyja jóvoltából megmenekülnek. Viszontagságos útjukat folytatják Szibériába. A szibériai Sviscsevóban aztán Harm megtudja apjáról az igazságot...
L'Ammiraglio Chegwidden, non credendo al KGB che afferma che Harm e Mac sono morti in un incidente aereo, vola a Mosca per cominciare un indagine personalmente. Harm e Mac sono sopravvissuti allo schianto dell'aereo e hanno deciso di continuare la ricerca del padre di Harm, disperso in missione.
Con l'aiuto di due fratelli russi, eludono la cattura da parte del KGB e alla fine Harm viene a conoscenza di ciò che è accaduto al padre tanti anni prima.
Harm y Mac se encuentran investigando las pistas que han obtenido acerca del paradero del padre de Harm. Pero sus propósitos son algo arriesgados ya que tienen que estar huyendo de los agentes de la KGB. Por su parte, los rusos informan de que ambos marines americanos han muerto en un accidente de avión. Sin embargo, el Almirante Chegwidden no se cree esta versión y se traslada a Rusia para buscarlos.
