She’s OK

Zack is a bit of a loner, his father is in prison and his mother suffers from depression, often taking to her bed for days on end, leaving Zack to ultimately fend for himself. Rather than going to school, Zack skips lessons to work for Tony, a fruit and vegetable stall holder at the local indoor market. Tony served time in prison during his youth and can see something of his younger self in this troubled boy. He finds himself becoming a mentor-father figure to Zack. On several occasions since Zack started working for him, Tony has seen him heading down that grim path of crime, even though Zack always insists it is in the best interests of his mum. After Zack is chased by one very irate shop-keeper and narrowly escapes being caught, Tony lays down the law. If Zack wants to end up like his father, then carry on. If not, change - before it is too late. Determined not to let Tony down, and to do the best for his mum the honest way, Zack makes a concerted effort to turn things around. He does not want to end up like his father. He decides to pay for the goods he has stolen from a local shop, much to the surprise of the shopkeeper. Then he makes the biggest decision of all - to return to school.
