Let There Be Light

Creating atmosphere and drama in the home through lighting design is the goal of today's show. On a trip to Lamps Plus, Christopher shows the variety of options available in accent, task, and decorative lighting while discussing their uses in creating an overall lighting plan. He next explains how different light sources can mix together, using the living room set as an example. To simulate a natural light source, Christopher builds a light box (also featured in show #107, segment 5) with wood and plexi-glass, then makes two different lamps out of stacked kitchen colanders and lampshades. Professional lighting secrets about shadowing and highlighting are shared on the set of the sitcom, ""Brother's Keeper,"" by Rick Maas of Universal Studio's Set Lighting and Grip Department. Home entertaining expert/author Deborah Fabricant sets up a romantic tablescape with a floating candle centerpiece. Stencil artist Jeff Raum demonstrates covering self-adhesive lampshades with beautifully stenciled
