The contestants are challenged to design a small studio in a student halls of residence in Leicester, which must allow room for sleeping, studying and socialising. With just two days to complete their makeovers, the competitors need to make the best use of their time to ensure they get their studios finished.
The five remaining contestants take part in a commercial design challenge to transform holiday lodges in the Lincolnshire woods. Split into a team of two and a team of three, the competitors embark on the biggest project of the series so far, designing a bedroom each, along with a shared kitchen-diner and an outdoor area.
The four remaining interior designers take part in a commercial design challenge to transform two restaurants in Bristol, as they look to claim their place in the semi-finals. For the first time, Michelle Ogundehin tells them they will have the chance to meet their clients and see the spaces before taking on the design, but also warns them that she needs to see some individual design flair from each of them, as at the end of the challenge, one designer from the losing team will be leaving the competition.
As the semi-finals get underway, the remaining three contestants go head to head for the first time as they are challenged to redesign an entire hair salon, with industry experts Kelly Hoppen, Sophie Robinson and Abigail Ahern on hand to offer the designers their advice. Judging the finished salons alongside Michelle Ogundehin this week is design legend, Lawrence Llewelyn- Bowen.
The two remaining designers compete in the final of the competition, and are challenged to redesign an entire open plan apartment in Manchester. Before the finalists start the design process, knowing they need to make it count, they head off to Manchester, to see the apartments for the first time. Meeting the homeowners, they realise they must design for the client, but also work hard to put their own design stamp on the properties. With just three days to complete this ambitious challenge, the finalists know they have their work cut out if they're to prove to Michelle that they are the worthy winner. Last in the series.
Having survived seven tough design challenges, the two finalists go head-to-head for the ultimate prize. Awaiting the winner is a career-defining design contract with a boutique hotel in the Lake District. This week, they will be entering into the luxury holiday market, with each given a two-bedroom villa to completely redesign.
This week, the designers arrive in Brighton and find out it’s time to work solo. Michelle tells them to get into the spirit of the staycation, as they’re off to north Wales to a glamping site. With a chance to showcase their individual abilities, they’ll each have a shepherd's hut to transform into a boutique bolthole in the tranquil Welsh countryside.
