A man and his aged dad go kayaking in the Alaskan wilderness. Everything goes fine until they run into some ice on the river, and soon find themselves swept underneath.
A l’occasion de son soixante-cinquième anniversaire, Neil Stanfield organise un rafting avec son fils Blake dans l’Arctic National Park aux Etats-Unis. Alors qu’ils naviguent sur une rivière, leur embarcation se retourne soudainement. Pris au piège sous la glace, ils parviennent néanmoins à éviter la noyade mais luttent contre l’hypothermie. Ils décident de s’enfoncer dans une forêt où vivent des ours. Blake va devoir laisser son père qui ne peut plus suivre et partir seul chercher de l’aide.
