Heimildarmynd um forna búskaparhætti í sunnlenskum sveitum. Myndin varð til að frumkvæði héraðsþings Skarphéðins árið 1956. Kvikmyndun hófst 1960 og lauk 1973. Vigfús Sigurgeirsson annaðist kvikmyndatöku og klippingu. Dr. Haraldur Matthíasson og Þórður Tómason sviðsettu efnið og flytja frásögn. Verkið var framleitt fyrir Búnaðarsamband Suðurlands.
