Gon's father, long believed to be dead, is still alive and was once one of the greatest Hunters in existance. Gon believes he will be able to meet his father once he himself becomes a Hunter. However, before he can become a Hunter, he has to pass the Hunter Exam first, an exam made of numerous tasks and dangerous trials.

Yoshihiro Togashi [Story]

Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫 義博, Togashi Yoshihiro, born April 27, 1966) is a Japanese manga artist. He began drawing manga at an early age, before being recognized for his talent by publishing company Shueisha while attending college. Togashi has authored several manga series in different genres during the past three decades. He is perhaps best known for writing and illustrating the YuYu Hakusho and Hunter × Hunter series, both of which are some of the best-selling manga in history. Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon.

Nekketsu

Nekketsu refers to a canvas and a genre used in manga (especially shōnen) and shōsetsu (novels). It is directly inspired by the concept of monomyth as described by Joseph Campbell. Osamu Tezuka is credited with having created the genre, through his manga New Treasure Island.
