Bei Arbeiten im Hotel verunglückte vor zwei Jahren ein Mann tödlich. Dessen Familie reist jetzt an. Sie macht Mrs. Cabot für den Tod verantwortlich. Die Aufgebrachten kidnappen die Hotelbesitzerin und stellen sie in ihrer Suite vor ein Tribunal.

Adele Ellsworth, her two sons Luther and Brendon, and another family member, Edgar, hold Mrs. Cabot, Peter and Christine at gunpoint and demand justice for Adele's husband, Ellis, a workman who died at the hotel two years before. They accuse Mrs. Cabot of forcing the workers to continue working into the night, leading Ellis to become exhausted and fall off the building. Contradicting Edgar's version of events, Mrs. Cabot points out that the foreman never warned her of safety dangers. Eventually, Edgar admits that he lied to the family, because Ellis had fallen after getting drunk during an afternoon tryst with another woman.
