  • S1999E01 Bolt On Power For The Track

    Talk about a throwback...it's the first episode of Horsepower TV ever! Chuck and Joe bolt on a few extra horsepower to Project Pony Car. After installing a nitrous kit, they take it to the track to test it out. Then, they use an old '39 Buick chassis to demonstrate how to bring a street rod into the '90s with a front end kit. Later, it's down to Orlando for the world's ultimate street car shootout - the Real World Street Nationals.

    We head under the hood of our 1991 stock Pontiac Firebird after a baseline dyno run to give it some performance upgrades. A high-performance tune-up including upgrades to the manifold, ignition and more will give this car power within a $10,000 budget. Then, we hit the road and visit a hot rod hangout in Orlando, FL.

    After exhaustive research we've found more power in Project Budget Bird. But how much? We cut on the exhaust to solve some problems and bolt on new headers and a high-flow exhaust system. Then, it's back to the dyno for another run. We use a flow bench to see which cylinder head machining gives you the most for your money. Then, it''s off to Florida for a drag race.

    Sports compacts are in, so of course we had to do one! We're building up a Honda (Acura to be specific) into a hot rod including headers, high-performance exhaust, and a new set of power pulleys. Plus, we add an ignition upgrade and nitrous kit. Then we take it to the chassis dyno to see how much power it puts out.

    We have an automatic cure for any transmission troubles you may be having! We're swapping the automatic trans in Chuck's grocery-getting wagon with a high-performance, 5-speed overdrive.     We use some retro techniques to bring new life to an old Ford FE. We use a high-performance re-build kit plus a new camshaft, aluminum heads, intake manifold, and more. Then, we install a new sound system on a street machine.

  • S2004E01 Project Nightmare Blower

    The Horsepower honchos have a wake-up call for Project Nightmare. The ’96 Mustang GT gets a streetable Vortech supercharger that promises to add at least 80 rear wheel horsepower to the car. Following the installation, numbers will be laid down on the dynojet. Also, featured is coverage of the NMCA World Finals where a New Yorker racer sets a new world’ record in the Limited Street class.

  • S2004E02 383 Stroker

    Chuck and Joe take you through the entire steps of building a 383 stroker motor – from matching to complete assembly. They’ll use new computer software to calculate horsepower and torque even before the engine is assembled. Actual numbers will be made in a nearby dyno cell.

  • S2004E03 North vs. South Drags

    It’s the North vs. the South in an all-out, winner-take-all drag racing shootout. Joe Elmore gets right in the middle of this historic battle of Outlaw Street Cars at Piedmont Dragway in Greensboro, NC. Also, Chuck and Joe install a nitrous kit on their little hot rod Honda to see if it “goes or blows” in the Horsepower shop’s dynojet.

  • S2004E04 Super Nova Fuel & Wiring

    Chuck and Joe introduce their “new kid on the block”, Mike Galley, as they get the Super Nova ready for the drag strip. They’ll install a race-style fuel cell, fuel pump and regular. They’ll complete the fuel delivery system and the wiring, and then pump up the appearance of Joe’s ’96 Mustang with a unique seat makeover.

    Once again, Horsepower has exclusive coverage of the World Street Nationals in Orlando, FL. It’s a season-end super bowl of speed where all the top street car racers convene to battle it out for big bucks and bragging rights until next season. Also, the Super Nova race car gets a lightweight, fiberglass hood, and there’s a tip on how to install a remote door-popper on a classic car with shaved door handles.

    Joe’s Project Nightmare gets a new set of high performance brakes from Roush Racing, featuring massive 14-inch front rotors, four-piston calipers and state-of-the-science brake pads. Joe and Mike will test the results at a local strip with unbelievable results. Plus, Chuck shows you how to easily make a fuel tank swap that keeps an original muscle car concourse correct.

    This weekend, a real world engine upgrade. The Horsepower gang will tackle a cam and valvetrain swap on a muscle car – without removing the engine. They’ll also swap out the timing set and gaskets to pump up the power using basic shop tools. Also, a heads-up on how tech wheel balancing works.

    Mopar madness is back. The Horsepower guys will bolt on a big blower to a classis Roadrunner engine to make an amazing amount of power. You’ll see just how much rear wheel horsepower it makes on the Dynojet. Also, Joe visits the ultimate cool car cruise in the heartland called Somernights.

    Can you build a small block street motor that displaces 472 cubic inches and makes over 650 horsepower? That’s what Chuck, Joe and Mike will discover as they build a Shafiroff Performance pump gas small block that’s truly a little monster. To verify the power output, Joe takes the finished motor to an engine dyno for testing.

    This week’s Horsepower kicks off at the annual Bristol Bash, an annual enthusiasts happening that features drag racing, motorcross and competition for the coveted Year One Cup award. Plus, the guys install a cool accessory drive system on a muscle car and show you how to install a state-of-the-art air system for your shop. Last but not least – announcement of the final pick in the Real Ride Challenge.

    We launch our 55/SS project which is a 21st century version of the popular 1955 Chevy shoebox. We’ll build it from the chassis up with a 502 big block, then the trans, rearend, brakes and suspension. We’ll also visit the shop to show how the chopped top bodies are made from fiberglass.

  • S2004E16 Mustang 40th Anniversary

    America’s favorite pony is 40 years old. We’ll join the Mustang anniverary celebration at Nashville Super Speedway where some of the rarest, fastest and most gorgeous ponies will be present. Also, we’ll add a power programmer and set of free-flow headers to our LSI Camaro project car – nicknamed the “LSI Gun”.

    HorsePower now has its own racing event! The entire season opener will be on location at Carolina Dragway in Aiken, SC. It is the final season race of the Outlaw Racing Street Car Association and features some of the hottest racers in the country in heads-up competition!
